Coming soon... UVC webcams for Mac OS X; roundup



We all know how difficult it can be to find a Mac compatible webcam - and we don't ALL have iSight cameras. I shall be bringing you the best of the best, Mac compatible webcams, just as soon as I have waded my way through all the hand-slicing, bulletproof blister packs, wrangled with ultra-stiff USB cables, blu-tacked them to my monitor etc...

ATI Radeon HD3870 Mac & PC edition: can you say LOUD?




I just received my ATI Radeon HD3870 Mac & PC edition review sample, from AMD... I installed it inside the Mac Pro... can you say "LOUD!!"?.

The noise inside my Mac Pro has increased from almost inaudible, to that of a handheld vacuum cleaner, overnight!.

2008 Mac Pro - all fans at FULL power, Cap'n!







The 2008 model Mac Pro, 8-core 2.8Ghz Xeon (stock config). We installed "smcFanControl" and kicked the fans to full tilt. It's great to know that such a powerful machine that operates almost silently under 'normal' usage, has the guts to keep cool when put under pressure.

Reviewed: 32Gb of Kingston FBDIMMS (8x4Gb FBDIMM) in 2008 Mac Pro


Here we review a FULLY stocked 2008 Mac Pro 8-core 2.8Ghz machine. Kingston Europe kindly donated 32Gb of part No: "KTAMP800K2/8G" Mac Pro FBDIMMs (8x4Gb) for the review; come back soon to find out how they scored, along with photos and GeekBench results. We are going to test the kit in the following configurations (in pairs of 2x4Gb modules at a time):


2x1Gb = 2Gb (Apple stock configuration)
2x4Gb = 8Gb
4x4Gb = 16Gb
6x4Gb = 24Gb
8x4Gb = 32Gb (Maximum configuration!)



Here we can see the idle temperatures of the FBDIMMs. The fan speed barely changed at all when upgrading from the stock 2x1Gb FBDIMMs, to a fully loaded 32Gb 8x4Gb Mac Pro:
